MAJOR INDUSTRIAL RISKS
 

Risk analysis of complex technological systems, using the methods listed below (among others):

Risk Identification
Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP, using conventional methods, such as guide-words, and advanced techniques, such as Recursive Operability Analysis); Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA); Safety Audits; "What if" Analysis; Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA); Hazard Identification Analysis (HazId).

Quantification of probability of occurrence
Event and fault-tree analysis.

RELIABILITY AND MAINTAINABILITY OF COMPLEX SYSTEMS
 

RAMS analysis
Assessment of the reliability and availability of process plant and complex technological systems using conventional methods, such as FMECA, FTA, etc., and innovative techniques such as Markov chains, Integrated Dynamic Decision Analysis and Fuzzy Logic. The same tools are used to support maintenance planning optimisation (Reliability Centred Maintenance - RCM).

Assessment of the Safety Integrity Level of process plants (ISO 615011), machines (ISO 62061) and automotive sector (ISO 26262).

Development of Reliability Databanks based on company-specific information or data from commercial databanks developed by reference organisations (ESReDA, OREDA, AIChE et al.).
Design of systems for collecting, storing and analysing plant maintenance data in order to develop the above databanks.

Integrated Dynamic Decision Analysis (IDDA)
IDDA is tool able to model the logic of a complex system: it provides a representation of all the possible alternative states into which the system could evolve, as real logical and temporal sequence of events. Each branch can follow several paths (up to eight), with probabilities conditioned by the evolution of the events preceding the branch itself.
In other words, starting from the analyst's description of the system (using an appropriate syntax), IDDA develops an enhanced form of "dynamic" event tree, representing all the sequences of events compatible with the description received from the perspective of both the "logical" construction and the "probabilistic" coherence.
In short, IDDA is concerned with system logic, i.e. the logical-probabilistic connections within a given universe, treated dynamically and in which the logical model is fully integrated with its physical and phenomenological model.
One of IDDA's main advantages is that it offers all the tools that are needed in order to overcome the issue of the binary proliferation of alternatives, limiting the problem to a manageable field.
IDDA is thus capable of providing a model of the system in question, which can be used to support documented, substantiated and well-founded decisions on the basis of an analytical presentation of the possible alternatives and of the "risk" (in terms of probability and consequence) that each entails.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY
  ARIA assists companies in identifying and implementing occupational health and safety regulations. More specifically, ARIA supplies the following services:
  1. Assessment of general and specific risks (chemical hazards, ATEX, noise, vibrations, electrical hazards, biological hazards, manual handling of loads, exposure to carcinogenic agents, etc.)

HSEQ MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
 

In the field of management systems (Quality, Environment, Health and Safety), ARIA offers the following services:

  • Initial Assessment of the Safety and Enviromental situation and fullfillments. In this phase the status quo is defined, to be used as a starting point for the development of management systems.
  • Development of the MS. In this phase, the documents that contitute the framework for the whole MS (manual, procedures, operational instructions) in close cooperation with the company.
  • Audit. Necessary for the MS implementation, the audit activities foreseen are: intermediate audit, to assess the implementation completeness, pre-audit for certification purposes, support during certification audit.
  • Education and training.
  • MSs integration. for the optimisation of company times and resources.

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
  ARIA performs environmental risk assessments, aimed at identifying suitable preventive actions and analysing and developing the appropriate emergency procedures to limit the environmental impact of accidents. These activities particularly address "major risk" companies.

ARIA offers specialist assistance in the following areas:
  • Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC - Directive 96/61/EC);
  • EIA, environmental impact assessment;
  • Development and evaluation of GHG (Greenhouse Gas) accounting systems, to ensure that companies provide a complete and accurate report of their emissions, consistently with best practices adopted by the various industrial sectors participating in the European Emissions Trading program;
  • Land-use planning.

RENEWABLE-ALTERNATIVE ENERGY
 

ARIA is a point of reference for analysis and decision making concerning energy projects, based on the use of the various technologies available on the world market.
Industrial, banking, insurance, trading and service sector groups, hospitals, public authorities and residential districts are among the organisations that turn to ARIA for assistance in this area.

Power consumption optimisation
Definition of the building's theoretical characteristics, analysis and examination of energy consumption records, evaluation of any differences compared to statistical averages, identification of any possible shortcomings during the year, such as lack of or poor maintenance.

Energy saving
Building assessment with suggestions for improvement work required: passive, on structures, or active, on equipment

  • definition of specifications for the materials to be used, type of construction, heat and sound insulation of fixtures
  • definition of specifications and choice of suppliers/installers of electrical systems, HVAC systems, telecommunications (Building Management System)

Certification/Assessment of buildings energy performances
Certification of buildings to energy efficiency classes as required by current legislation and assessments prior to certification of energy consumption per surface unit for residential buildings, housing units, industrial plants, shopping centres, hospitals, etc.
